P4u Round-Up: Our Pick Of The Week

Remember how we said last week that Bank Holidays were good? Ignore that, they’re actually massive pains that mean we’ve got lots of work to do the following week. Rushed off our little feet we’ve been, trying in vain to catch up with all the latest technology news. But, because we’re professional and never complain about our jobs, we’ve managed it and stuck it all together for you in a Friday fiesta known as Pick Of The Week. Wanna see what’s been happening? Let’s have a gander…

Nexus 4 Potw

Is the 5 alive?

After loads up rumours some LG bod came out and said the company won’t be turfing out a Nexus 5 handset despite making the last one. Cue lots of crying followed by a swift U-turn, instead claiming it had “no plans at the moment”. What’s going on then? No one knows, is the answer. There may be a Nexus coming, there may not be a Nexus coming, we’ll just have to wait and see. Always nice when things are this transparent and straightforward, certainly makes our lives a lot easier. (*SARCASM KLAXON*).

Moto X Potw

X marks the spot, finally

Luckily this week has been punctuated with proper news with confirmation and everything, one of which was the Motorola X phone finally being confirmed and nailed down for a release. Whilst having a chat at some D12 conference or something, a senior Google bod finally admitted the mystery-shrouded device will be popping up “before October” and that he had it in his pocket at that very moment. Nothing like some concrete information then, you big tease. The news will come as sweet relief for tech writers the world over, no doubt sick and tired of rearranging the “MOTOROLA X PHONE <INSERT TENUOUS RUMOUR> BLAH BLAH” headline. We’re looking forward to learning more.

S4 Mini Potw

I shall call him Mini me (again)

Another handset arriving sooner rather than later will be the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini after its parents confirmed its existence this week. Having a long, speculative build up of its own, the S4 Mini was confirmed in official capacity and its specs shown off, prompting endless internet-based discussion. As the smaller, more price-friendly version of the big Android behemoth a lot of people wondered what would make the cut, and it turned out to be largely gesture-free. Still, Android Jelly Bean 4.2 right out of the box anyone? Can’t imagine HTC One owners will feel good about that.

Stick Tennis Potw

Serving up some fun

When things are getting hectic and tempers start to flare at P4u Towers, a shining beacon of solitude always comes in the form of App’raisal. No matter what we’re doing, we always get the chance to muck about with a game or app and call it “work”, just so we can bring you the very best in new content  (and skive off for a bit). This week it’s Stick Tennis, the fun-filled cartoon sports caper that will get you in the mood for this coming summer. Full of crafty modes and enjoyable quirks, we give it a right good going over, and you should too.

Google Music Potw

Keep your i(OS) open

We love a good music streaming service, especially when things get a bit hectic and we have to find a distraction before we lamp each other (see above), so the unveiling of Google Play Music All Access was great news in our book. And now iOS users are gonna get a slice of the pie, after another D11 announcement confirmed it’ll hit up Apple products in a couple of weeks. It seems to have been well received so far, so we can expect it to go down well with those cheeky iOS lot when it eventually pops up.

There, that wasn’t too bad, was it? We’ve rattled that off in no time at all, and it’s not even time for tea yet. Still, not before time, and we’re scuttling off to enjoy the weekend, which will probably include unhealthy amounts of console gaming, preparing for the two week holiday of a lifetime where you’ll leave your colleagues totally in the lurch, or pathetically attempting DIY at the strict behest of your better half. Still, beats working eh? See you next week for another pop at this. Ciao.
